Palm Desert, CA – Following the groundbreaking of “Gateway Park” in Palm Springs, which was funded through the federal government’s $787 billion dollar stimulus program, and the report released today by the Social Security Administration’s Inspector General which states that $18 million dollars worth of stimulus funds went to dead Americans, Ryan Mahoney, Campaign Manager for Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45), issued the following statements:

“The federal government’s $787 billion dollar stimulus package continues to anger the American people with more reports of reckless spending and blatant mismanagement of taxpayer funds.

“In Palm Springs, taxpayers witnessed today another government program gone wrong.  Rather than address the looming unemployment rate, Palm Springs is wasting $1.4 million dollars from stimulus funds on a bocce ball court.  Even worse is that the Social Security Administration reports that $18 million dollars of the stimulus package were given to dead people or prison inmates.

“It’s clear that government waste is at an all-time high and the Administration’s ridiculous stimulus spending spree has failed us.

“Congresswoman Bono Mack joins with her constituents in opposing reckless spending programs in Washington and will continue to fight for smaller, more accountable government that spends wisely and taxes less.”
