BONO MACK URGES MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL TO PRIORITIZE PUBLIC SAFETY
News Articles
Palm Springs, CA – Following the announcement by Palm Springs officials that a multi-million dollar budget deficit will close the City’s jail and one of the local Fire Stations, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) issued the following statements:
“There is nothing more important than our first responders providing us the safety and security that every citizen deserves. It is the responsibility of government to provide first and foremost for a Police Department and Fire Department that will give crucial emergency services to residents.
“While I recognize that the Obama Stimulus has failed to create jobs or sustain economic activity, it is wrong that the first cuts are made to our most essential services.
“I recognize that this is a City decision and not a Federal one, but as a citizen with deep concern for Palm Springs, I urge the Mayor and City Council to reverse this unfortunate decision and find other ways to balance the budget.”
