Palm Springs, CA -Continuing in her efforts to keep dangerous terrorists off of U.S. soil, Congresswoman Bono Mack (CA-45) signed a discharge petition yesterday to force H.R. 2294, the “Keep Terrorists Out of America Act,” to the House floor for a vote.

“”The willingness of the Obama Administration to sacrifice public safety for partisan politics is alarming,” said Bono Mack. “Housing these notorious terrorists on U.S. soil for trial will needlessly endanger our citizens and our communities.  We have to stop the Administration and their reckless behavior.

“I am demanding that Speaker Pelosi allow the House to vote on H.R. 2294, The Keep Terrorists Out of America Act,” said Bono Mack.  “What’s next?  Are we going to require soldiers on the battlefield to read Miranda rights to Al-Qaeda?”

The “Keep Terrorists Out of America Act” requires the President to notify Congress 60 days before a transfer or release of a Guantanamo Bay detainee. H.R. 2294 also requires the Governor and State Legislature to consent to any release or transfer of a Guantanamo Bay detainee into their state before it can occur.

“The Administration’s decision to transfer Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind of September 11th, to New York serves as a glaring reminder to all Americans that your state could be next.  This is why I am asking all Californians to sign my petition, calling on President Obama to keep GITMO detainees out of California.  We must band together to let the Administration and the Majority in Congress know that we do not want these dangerous criminals in our prisons or on our streets.”
